Well, today was pretty cool. You guessed it... I shot the Titans game. It was big fun. I actually got to shoot a Canon EOS-1D with a 300mm f/2.8 lens. It was a heavy combo, but I fell in love with that lens. It was so sharp and the shots were just awesome.

Here is a sampling of a few shots I took. I especially liked the shot called "Taunt." You have Titan Kyle Vanden Bosch standing over Texan quarterback David Carr after he hideously sacked him. I don't think there was any real massive taunting going on, but in this shot, you see a man defeated lying on his back while a giant towered over him.

Anyway, fun day.

I don't like the way the backgrounds looks all funny, there is no detail in them.
How heavy can a camera and lens possibly be, stop complaining.

Probably too heavy for one who had rather sit home, read the excitement on the blog and complain!!!!! Get real!!!! Great shots, Wes. Loved seeing you just before halftime on the sidelines. Keep getting better and better. The pics are awesome. Good detail and clarity. As far as the background goes, its not the background we need to see, it is the subject that isn't blending into the background.

He's right Wes, the backgrounds are out of focus. You should start shooting sports at f22. Mind the subject will be blurry as a sombitch due to 1/20 shutter speed with a 300mm lens, but bag de la will be happy.
Sincerely,
Ugly Ricky

I like that the backgrounds are out of focus!
So the view is concentrated to the foreground and that's to the best advantage in these shots.

The pics are great! Expressive and lively!

Thanks for all the lively comments. I like it when a fire is kindled!

I must be honest though... I didn't shoot any of these shots. I actually sent a clone of myself that I had made at Vanderbilt Hospital to shoot the game so I could sit on my ass at home and drink Miller High Life and eat chicken wings and watch the game on the big screen.

If I would have shot them, you better damn believe the backgrounds would have been in focus! How unprofessional is that? Huh? You can't even tell who the misc. people in the crowd are. I mean, they are the important part of the photograph, right? I most surely should have shot at f/22... or maybe even f/79. It would have all surely been in focus with f/79! Ricky is right this time, no matter how seemingly screwed up and stupid he is at other times. Ugly Ricky, we luv ewe.

And I did some research. I looked up the specs on that 300mm f/2.8 lens, and it really isn't heavy at all, especially shooting it for several continuously during a football game while following the action running up and down the sidelines. It looks like a big sumbitch at first glance, but if you put it side-by-side with other Canon lenses, like the 50mm f/1.8 or 16-35mm f/2.8, then they definetly look about the same size and weight.

Sorry, for the massive sarcasm. I don't usually comment, but when something so ignorant gets posted, I feel I should chime in and give some laughs. Haha.

And Ricky, can I borrow your 120-642mm f/79 lens sometime? It is cool and groovy!
